We have been receiving complaints from residents living close to the school about dangerous parking by parents.
We have noticed an increase in mobile phone usage around school which we would like to address. Our school policy states that all mobile phones should be switched off and kept in school bags for the duration of the school day. This includes break and lunch time. The only exception to this would be if a teacher invited a student to use their phone as part of the lesson. If a student needs to contact home, they should do this via reception.
Mr Long shared a piece of research with our students in Assembly on Monday which showed that banning the use of mobile phones in schools can improve test scores by 6.4%, with the impact on under-achieving students being even more significant, with their average test score rising by 14% [according to a study by the London School of Economics]. All students have been reminded of our school policy on mobile phones this morning.
In accordance with our policy, if after a reminder, students are still using their phone, it will be confiscated for the remainder of the day. Staff will record the matter and if a pattern emerges of someone not meeting our expectations, we will contact home.
We would really welcome your support in this matter so your child can achieve the best results possible.
BGN now has an on-line shop where you can purchase items including text books and revision guides.

Maths workshops are being run for Yr 10, 11, 12 and 13.
Transport for September 2017 is a new contract with Grayline and no longer involves Oxfordshire County Council. Therefore any OCC ID numbers are NOT valid. If you have not already contacted Grayline direct with regard to your September 2017 bus pass, you MUST do so as a matter of urgency, otherwise your child will not be able to use the bus in September. If you have already made a payment to Grayline using an OCC ID number you will need to contact Grayline as they will be unable to trace your payment. THIS NEW CONTRACT REQUIRES A VALID NEW BUS PASS TO BE SHOWN FOR EACH JOURNEY, WITHOUT WHICH YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BOARD THE BUS.
Please note that from September 2017, all reports will be produced electronically and can be found accessed via the Parent Portal of the VLE. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
The next meeting will take place on Wednesday 7 June 2017 at 7.30pm in the LRC. Please come along with any ideas for future fundraising events. We are always looking for new members. We are also holding an old clothes collection on Thursday 22 June. Further details will follow shortly.
Please can all parents/guardians ensure that from Monday 27th March their child/children have the correct bus pass for travelling on the Grayline Coaches to and from school.
We congratulate all our Year 13 students, over three quarters of whom achieved A* to C in all their A Levels and are now moving on to top universities to study a wide range of degree courses including architecture, computer science, fashion, film, languages, history, maths and law. We are particularly delighted that 54% of grades achieved were B or above. Robert Napiorkowski gained an A*, A* A and Distinction Star, Ella Shawyer obtained A*, A, Distinction Star and Charlotte Riley achieved A*, A, A and will go on to study veterinary medicine and surgery. We are also really pleased with our interim AS grades for Year 12: 70% of the year group are already achieving grades of C or above with another year to go. Headline figures: A*-B 54% - A*-C 78% - A*-E 98%.
Congratulations to our Year 11s who have achieved wonderful results in their GCSEs this year. 72% of our pupils gained A*-C in English and Maths, with 67% gaining five GCSEs including English and Maths at A*-C. Well done to all our students and the staff that support them for these tremendous results. The progress of this year's Year 11 is excellent. There are many individual success stories with a number of students gaining As and A*s.
