Free School Meal Applications
We are writing to inform you about important changes to Free School Meal (FSM) eligibility that will come into effect from September 2026. Please can we ask that the form below is completed for all children, even if you do not think you are eligible, as this information will support the funding of the school.
The UK Government has confirmed that from September 2026 all children whose households receive Universal Credit will be entitled to Free School Meals, regardless of overall household income. This change means that over half a million additional pupils will become eligible for Free School Meals. If you would like to read more about the expanded eligibility, please follow this link.
What this means for your family
• No income cap: If your household receives Universal Credit, your child will be eligible
• Financial savings: Families could save up to £495 per child per year on school lunches
• Support for wellbeing: Your child will have access to a nutritious meal during the school day, supporting learning, concentration and overall wellbeing
What do I need to do?
This new eligibility criteria mean that all parents/carers must submit a new application, even if your child has previously received, or is currently receiving, Free School Meals. The school is required to check eligibility with Oxfordshire County Council annually.
To apply, please follow the link below to the application form. If you have any questions, please contact the main office on office.4600@bgn.oxon.sch.uk.
